The Art of the Infinity Scarf

It is no secret, I love a good scarf. What girl doesn't? I love that this is a trend that women of all ages can get on board with. I wear them almost every day, even if just in/out of the cold. The best part about scarves? You can throw your hair up in a bun, slap on a scarf,
and voila: you look trendy.

When infinity scarves first made an appearance on the fashion scene, I was intrigued. Never being one to wisely wait and see which trends stick around and which tend to disappear in a day, I purchased five one or two infinities. The only problem was, I couldn't really figure out how to wear/style/arrange them. That is, until now!
^ Left = Bad. Right = Good. Keep reading for the how-to.

An Infinity Scarf Tutorial
by a newly accomplished scarf arranger

Step 1. Begin with your scarf around your neck like so & loop once...
Step 2. Grab the top portion of the top section of the scarf.
Step 3. Take that part up and around the back, behind your head, until you see that it is lengthening the bottom section of your scarf. Pull that piece around so it is long on the bottom. The two sections will be farther apart now, but you're on the right track.
Step 4. Grab the bottom of the top section and pull it down towards the bottom.
Step 5. Fluff until cuteness happens and you are satisfied with the look of your scarf!

You'll be so relieved every time you put on one of these scarves that you don't have to fuss and fight with it to make it look good! Just follow these few, simple steps and you'll be rockin' that infinity.

I hope that you have found this helpful! It is somewhat difficult to relay a tutorial through pictures. Perhaps one day I will get ultra-blogger-ish and make a video tutorial…. But until then, go get yourself an infinity scarf!

Need some ideas for scarves? Take a minute to visit my go-to fashion expert, Erika, who has rounded up some great infinity scarves. Better yet, use the scarves she's found as ideas for Christmas gifts; you can't go wrong with an accessory like a scarf for any girl you'll be buying a gift for this Christmas season.

An "Un-churchy" Dress to "Churchy" Skirt

Anyone who has gone shopping with me before knows that I am a definite bargain hunter. I have always been the sort of girl who goes straight to the sale rack and then might meander around the rest of the store if nothing suitable was found on sale. I worked at Target in college and realized way too quickly that stuff can be so overpriced and it will all eventually be marked down anyway; so why buy it full-price?! Unfortunately though, one problem that I do run into is that this bargain-hunting-girl is completely average in every fashion way possible: size 8 shoe, medium shirts/tops, size 6 pants, even in bra size... I think I fit the "average" category in all of those areas.

This summer I was bargain hunting at an outlet and found this cute little sundress. I loved the print and then I looked at the price tag: $4.00. WOW! I couldn't believe that it was seriously only FOUR dollars! Score.

Plus, I will go ahead and make this statement.....

{Black + colorful floral = a winner in my fashion book}

As much as I loved the price and the print, the style of the top was just a little toooo revealing and it was definitely not church appropriate {or school appropriate for this teacher}. I even tried it with a sweater or a jacket on over it and it just didn't look right. I will spare you the pictures of it on my person.

I decided to try my sewing hand at a dress-turned-skirt transformation...

{Before}

^^ The top part was just a little too... Not there?

^^ Good riddance to the top 1/3 or so.
{I guess I wasted $1.33 of the $4.00. Ha.}

After cutting off the top, I only sewed a strip of elastic into the inside of the top hem to help it keep its shape and give it a clean edge on the top. After trying it on, I really should have cinched it a bit tighter with the elastic, but I think it works ok.

Dunnn duh duh DUN!

This week, I wore this to church on Sunday night and to school today! It's super comfortable and I decided that I like the way it looks with a shirt tucked in. It was kind of hard to find a shirt to go with it, so I may have to explore some more sale racks to find another top!

No more slinky spaghetti straps. It is also a good transition piece for summer --> fall. :)

It's good to know, that when cute clothes aren't quite to your liking, you can get them anyway and tweak them just a bit to make them perfect for you!

A Helpful "How-To:" Rolling A Sleeve

During the summer, I remember reading a post on Pinterest Told Me To {a fabulous fashion blog written by Erika's friend, Sheaffer} about a cute way to roll a sleeve! Talk about important information. I remember attempting it that day after I read the post, but that was back in the hot summer days when long-sleeves and button-ups weren't anywhere on my radar... If you know me, you know that summer weather ain't really my thang... I think the sleeve-roll attempt lasted about 45 seconds before I was back in a tank top and had that shirt off and put back into my fall/winter closet.

Fast forward to last Saturday, a cool, 77 degree, September day, and I was ready to wear my long-sleeve chambray to Springfield for a quick shopping trip! With a couple of attempts, I felt like I had achieved a similar look to the one that Sheaffer featured on her blog this summer. {Success!}

^^Everyone wants their button-ups to look this j-crew-esque. I needed it to look as effortless as this girl's but I quickly realized that it took a bit of effort to get this look... I suppose this is true with most "effortless"looks.

So here's a tutorial:

And the final product....

^^ This chick has mastered the sleeve-roll. {Although the denim-on-denim and complete buttoned-up look is kind of throwing me off right now. Not sure I'm THAT in love with denim.}

So. Here is my OOTD {outfit of the day, for all you non-modern-day-acronymers}:

Let me take this moment to remind you, after you've spent 4 minutes of your life reading this post, that it's the little things in our lives that truly matter.

Like a proper sleeve-roll. Consider giving this a try the next time you wear a button-up.
